Recital & Performances
Does OISD have a recital?

Are costumes included in tuition?
No. Recital costumes are a separate fee and are ordered in advance to ensure students have everything needed for the performance.

Recital participation is encouraged because it is an important part of the dance experience. Families should communicate with the studio if they have questions about participation.

Yes! Students may have opportunities to participate in community performances, showcases, competitions, and studio events.
How does recital preparation work during classes?
During the recital season, classes will dedicate appropriate class time to learning and rehearsing recital choreography. A maximum of approximately 20 minutes at the end of class may be used for recital rehearsal. The remaining class time will continue to focus on technique, skills, exercises, and the class curriculum.
Can a student sit out during recital rehearsal if they are not participating?
Students are expected to participate fully in their scheduled class, including recital preparation time. Class time is part of their dance education, and students should continue learning choreography and participating in class activities even if they are not performing in the final recital.
Why does OISD teach recital choreography to the full class?
Recital choreography is included as part of the lesson plan because it helps students develop musicality, memory, teamwork, confidence, and performance skills. Learning the choreography also allows students to continue building their skills and be prepared for performance opportunities if they become available.
